Shultz Goes Back to Back with a Win at Bedford Speedway

BEDFORD, PA – On a cold damp night in western, PA, 2019 championship team Ritter Racing with Jason Shultz behind the wheel came with the perfect formula to score their second win of the season at Bedford Speedway on Friday, May 7.

Every other track in the area had already canceled, but Bedford Speedway saw that the weather would be clearing around 4 p.m. and promoter Joe Padula decided to risk it all and continue on with the show on what would end up being a very cold spring night. Eleven United Racing Club 360 sprint cars braved the cold and the made the long trip to the western PA speedway. 2021 standout drivers such as Jason Shultz, Andy Best, and Adam Carberry were all in attendance and we welcomed the 2018 champion, Josh Weller back in his family owed 63. The field was split into two heat races – which were won by Adam Carberry and Kevin Darling.

When the feature came, the track was in pristine condition. The redraw saw Shultz on the pole, with Carberry to his outside; Darling and Dallas Schott were in row two. The green flag came out and Shultz shot to the lead while Carberry settled in second. When the yellow flag waved about 1/3rd of the way through the race for Brent Shearer, Shultz would once again lead the field to green with Carberry, Schott, Stillwaggon, and Weller in tow. However, this is when the action would truly pick up. Schott was having trouble on the restarts getting his car to go which would cause the cars behind him to get bottled up. These cautions allowed Weller to get around Stillwaggon and Schott and make his way into the third position setting his sights on the top 2. The yellow flag would once again wave and Stillwaggon made his way around Schott and into the fourth position fending off a major slider from the 2020 Rookie of the Year in turns 1 and 2. The top four was pretty set when heartbreak struck the 2020 champion Adam Carberry when he had a tire failure late in the race. This set the final restart where Shultz would lead Weller and Stillwaggon to the green. Once the green flag waved, the no. 35 took off and cruised to victory. Weller, Stillwaggon, Schott, and Denochick would round out the top 5.

“The guys gave me another fast car,” said Shultz, “we put ourselves behind in the pill draw by picking pretty high but the car was so good I was able to make it into a redraw spot in the heats.” This makes back to back wins for Jason and the Ritter Racing team, as they won at Port Royal two weeks prior. “The track was great for the feature and its always good to start on the pole. “I am just happy to be here and running with Ritter – they always give me a car that can win,” said Shultz. By winning Friday night, Jason Shultz put his team in position to win the bonus that was being donated by the Museum of Speed if one driver could sweep the Bedford-Cumberland weekend.

Ritter Racing has a lot of great sponsors that help them get to victory lane and compete all year with the United Racing Club, they include: Selinsgrove Ford, Horstcraft Millworks, Weis Markets, Weather Proof Roofing, Doak and Co. Racing, Allen A. Shaffer Insurance, Bud Godek Auto Body, Bodmer Family Footcare, Pine Hollow Forest Products, Lauver & Son Trucking, Emilys Country Farm Market, Hoovers Produce, Dealz on Wheels, Engler Machine and of course their family, friends, and fans.

The United Racing Club will compete at The Greater Cumberland Raceway to complete the first double header weekend, but the next races on the schedule is slated for Friday May 21 where the club will travel to one of the more popular stops of the tour: Big Diamond Speedway.
