A warm late Summers eve graced the competitors of the United Racing Club on Friday night at the Selinsgrove Speedway for the return of the 22nd running of the Selinsgrove 360 National Open.A race two years in the making. It would be fitting that the hometown boy would take the victory. As Selinsgrove’s Michael Walter II becomes the 8th different winner in the first 8 races of the 2025 United Racing Club Season taking home his first National Open Title
14 URC Sprint Cars signed in for their 77th race at the Snyder County half mile. Walter and Mertztown,PA’s Josh Weller shared the front row for the first running of the 360 National Open since 2022. Walter would take the initial lead over Weller. Walter would begin the beating from there. Out to a quick 2.5 second lead in the opening laps. By lap 7 Walter was already into lap traffic setting a torrent pace out front. The lap car of Devin Gundrum would pinch Weller, impeding Weller's pursuit. Walter would use that and the high side of the Selinsgrove Speedway to his advantage. Weller would start to increase his lead almost straight away with just 10 laps remaining. Woodbine,NJ’s Buddy Schweibinz would close in on Weller when he tried to negotiate lap cars. Weller would hold off the charge from the young gun. Fultonville,NY’s Chase Moran would close in on Weller and Schweibinz. Schweibinz would close the gap and try to look low on Weller. Weller was having none of that holding off Schweibinz. Meanwhile out from Walter’s lead would be nearly 6.6 seconds and that was all she wrote as Walter would become the 294th different winner in URC history winning the 2025 Selinsgrove 360 National Open over Weller,Schwibinz,Moran and Sassumville,PA Brandon McGough would round out the top 5.
“I have a lot of laps here. Moving up to 410’s makes driving this thing like driving Grandma’s Cadillac.” Walter II said in High Caliber Cranes Victory Lane. “ I had to run the heck out of it so they couldn't get underneath me or pass me.
The United Racing Club is back in action tonight Saturday September 20th for our final trip to New Jersey as Bridgeport hosts URC for the third and final time in 2025.
