Carberry looks to rebound following 2018 season

Carberry looks to rebound following 2018 season

APRIL 4, 2019 – Some seasons are more difficult than others and 2018 is one that Adam Carberry is happy to move on from.

The driver of the No. 47 360 sprint car opened his 2018 season with a wreck that left him on the sidelines of competition for the next few races. Combine that with several rainouts and a blown motor in the final race of the season, 2018 was a tough – and expensive – one for Carberry.

“Our 2018 season was not what we wanted and we were very frustrated with (it), unfortunately,” Carberry said. “Losing a car then having motor problems and fuel problems and a lot of rainouts made it hard for us to get into our rhythm again.”

However, the year wasn’t all bad.

Carberry ended up switching motor builders and shocks, after which he saw improvement – and speed.

“It was hard for us to catch back up after (the rough start to the 2018 season), but we got faster all year when we were racing – much better and consistent.”

And Carberry hopes to carry that speed and momentum into 2019, starting with the Selinsgrove Speedway opener April 6.

The driver plans to race the full 28-race URC schedule while also making any additional shows he can at Selinsgrove – his schedule currently holds roughly 40 races on the lineup for the year.

His main goal for the season? With one win to his name already at Selinsgrove, Carberry would like to land his first URC victory while staying consistent and running up front.

Racing with URC allows the Bensalem, Pennsylvania, native the opportunity to travel and race with a variety of talented drivers.

“I think it's a great learning experience,” Carberry said, “to become a better driver, being at different tracks and racing with many guys that have raced not only 360s but 410s too for a long time.”

Carberry will kick off his 2019 URC campaign next Sunday, April 14, at Bridgeport Speedway in his No. 47 R&S General Contractors car.

“I'm looking forward to just being back at the track with a motor and car I feel very confident with,” he said. “We had a lot of speed last year, just not the finishes. We are well prepared for the season so I'm excited to race a lot this year.”
